The Conch Paradox on St. Martin

The queen conch grows a shell so heavy and so perfect that nothing can get in. It also cannot get out. The Conch Paradox is about island economies that get good at one thing, and how the protection that served them becomes the trap.

The book starts from Aruba, but the question travels. St. Martin built its economy around visitors, and it knows what one storm can do to that. The evening is a short talk and then an open conversation, which takes most of the time.

Students from three courses at the university will be there, along with members of a local book club. Copies of the book are available after the talk, and Rendell will sign them.
